I-Share items
Please do not ever give a patron an I-Share item without making sure it charged out to them. No matter how much the patron is upset or saying they need it, if you cannot get the item checked out to them they cannot have it until the proper staff can fix it. The proper staff are June, Belinda or myself.

Substitue ASC Position Available
The ASC position responsibilities are outlined in the full position descriptions that is posted on the Student Assistant website under “Job Responsibilities.” Please be sure to read this description carefully if you are considering applying for this position! Student assistant must have completed a minimum of 2 terms of working at the library in order to be eligible to apply. All applicants must have a strong work record, be dependable, and have excellent customer services skills.
There is no increase in salary level for ASC positions. However, as these positions require additional responsibilities, they are a great addition to your resume! When asked to do letters of recommendations for students in these positions, we are always careful to indicate the additional responsibilities and the fact that the student was selected for one of just 3 positions. Please keep in mind that these positions require working 1-2 nights per week, a potential Saturday shift, and a 3 hour shift on Sunday. Assistant Student Coordinators are also allowed to pick up sub hours for Information Services Desk and Periodicals desk shifts. ASC positions do not require summer or December Term hours. Please note that if the person that fulfills this temporary position maintains an excellent work record, they will be given first consideration for any future ASC openings. Specific hours to be shared by the three ASCs include:
Academic Terms
Monday – Thursday Saturday Sunday
5-9 p.m. 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. 12-3 p.m.
1-5:30 p.m. 3-6 p.m.
6-9 p.m.
Anyone wishing to apply for the temporary ASC position should email a letter of application to me that includes the number of terms you have worked, areas in which you have worked, and reasons you feel especially qualified for the position.
The deadline for applying is Noon on Friday, September 14. Interviews will be conducted shortly thereafter. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding this position or the procedures for applying.

summer position open
Tuesday, May 29, 2012
As always, the beginning of Fall Term will be a busy time here at the library. In addition to all of the usual beginning of term activities, we will be busy hiring our new student assistants for the coming year. Therefore, Belinda has created a special schedule that will be for the first two weeks of Fall Term ONLY! (The specific dates of coverage for this schedule are September 10-23.) This schedule will allow us to keep all essential operations going during those first, very busy, weeks of the term. By the beginning of the third week, we will have hired our new student assistants and given them at least some beginning training. You will then begin a more “normal” schedule for the rest of the term. That “week 3 through week 10” schedule will be given to you during the second week of Fall Term.
ASCs and SCs, please note that your hours will NOT change after week 2. However, for the first two weeks, some ASCs will be working at the Information Service Desk with the Reference Services Librarian during some of their shifts rather than in the staff room. We will have just one other student assistant on duty during those ASC hours, and that student assistant will be at the Periodicals Desk.
As always, please be sure to see Belinda or Heidi on Monday, September 10th to let us know that you are back on campus and to confirm your schedule. Also, it is very important that we learn of any changes to your availability for Fall Term as soon as possible. If for any reason you decide that you will not be able to work the following schedule for September 10-23, please contact one of us immediately so that we can make other arrangements for these times!
You can find your schedule by going to the student assistant website, click on the student assistant contact information, then click on your name and move the calendar to the week of September 10th.
Please be sure to talk with us if you have questions/concerns!

Information Services Desk Computer
We have replaced the information services desk computer so that we don't have log in issues anymore. When you sign in please make sure, before you log into Voyager that your printer is set up properly. Please go to the "Start" menu, select "Devices and Printers," right click over "Circulation Receipt Printer" and set it as your default printer. Then open Voyager. The setting on the printer now is just print out just the size of the receipt, so after you print, push the "Feed" button on the receipt printer just enough to get enough paper to be able to rip the receipt off without cutting off any of the text.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Welcome Back!
Please remember that sometime today we need you to come in and confirm your schedule. Do this by 5pm today, otherwise it may be a while before we can have it officially fixed.
While you were gone we changed the video and cd collection. Most of the videos have been integrated into the stacks, they still have the 1 week check out time but they are in with the books now. All videos that have to do with film or music are in the new Giere, which is located at the top of the stairs in the main lobby. All cds have been moved the same place as well. You know that they belong there while shelving because the call number starts with the word GIERE.
Let me know if you have any questions,
Heidi
