Hello,
Just a little reminder that you should always log into the student assistant computer at the information services desk before you do anything else. Don't set up your stuff, LOG IN!
Thanks!

Information services desk
Hello,
Please remember that the information services desk is your first priority and should never be left empty. The student assistants should be the most aware of being present at the desk.
Please do not just leave if no one has shown up at the end of your shift. If, by chance, the person who comes after you has not shown up for their shift, please let myself or the person sitting on the staff side know the situation. PLEASE DO NOT JUST LEAVE!
Thanks!
Heidi

Welcome back!
Welcome back! We are excited to see students back on campus,
and especially our returning student assistants! When you checked in with us
yesterday we gave you a number of updates. Here is a bit more detail about
those items:
Reference Services Librarians:
We are sad to share the news that
neither Mary nor Dave will be returning this fall. Since they left over the
summer and no one got to say goodbye, we have a card for each of them in the
office if you would like to write them a note. In related news, our new
Reference Services Librarians for the evenings and weekends are Helen and Lisa.
Please help us make them feel welcome and appreciated as they start this term
with us!
I-Share Book Bands:
In an effort to become more sustainable, we have switched
from the blue I-Share bands to new permanent maroon bands! You will still check
out these books in the same way that you did the blue bands. Look for the
school’s barcode to charge or discharge. If you cannot locate the barcode, it
will be written on the front on the white receipt that is in the pocket of the
band. Do not try to scan the barcodes on those receipts as they aren’t
compatible with our scanners. When you give the books to the patron, tell them
that they need to keep the band on the books when they return them or they will
be risking fines. If you get a book back that does not belong to Oesterle
Library and does not have the band on it, DO NOT DISCHARGE IT. Give it to Neena
(or Heidi/Belinda If Neena is not there). If you are unsure or have questions
about the new process, do not hesitate to ask one of us!
Voter Registration station:
You may have noticed in the lobby
that we have a Voter Registration Station up on one of the public computers. We
are really excited for the opportunity to help students, faculty, staff, and
our community get prepared to vote in the midterm elections this November! The
screen should stay open to https://www.vote.org/
- from this site people can check their status, register to vote, request an
absentee ballot, and check their polling place. A couple of important
pieces of information - we can NOT help
anyone fill out their voter registration or answer any questions about their
specific situation. We are not trained or certified in any way to do that.
We can only tell people it is available to them, and then they have to figure
it out for themselves. ---

End of Term Matters
There
are several matters that we must take care of before the term ends. Please read this memo carefully!
1.
We
need to know whether or not you are planning to return to North Central and
your position at the library in the fall.
If you are returning, please complete a Fall Term schedule on this page. If for any reason you do not plan
to return in the fall, please fill out the "not returning to Oesterle" form to let us know your
intentions as soon as possible!
2.
FALL
TERM SCHEDULES - All of you who do plan to return to work Fall Term will be
assigned a work schedule before you leave for the summer. That work schedule will be for the first two
weeks of the term only. Priority during
that time will be given to covering all night and weekend desk hours, and then
daytime desk hours as available. We will
need to hire new student assistants during those two weeks, and we will be
depending on all of you to help us keep operations running while we do that
hiring! Early in the second week of the
term you will receive a new work schedule that will be in effect for weeks
3-10.
The appropriate form should be completed to indicate when you
will be available to work during those first two weeks of Fall Term. Please complete the form carefully and
thoughtfully! Also, remember that if you
submit a schedule that that does not leave sufficient hours for us to work with
when assigning schedules, the form will be returned to you for revision! All forms should be given to Heidi by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, MAY 22nd.
4. FINALS
WEEK - All student assistants are expected to work their regular work schedule
through Saturday, June 2nd. A
finals week schedule is being prepared for Sunday, June 3rd through
Wednesday, June 6th. All
student assistants are required to sign up to work a minimum of four hours during finals week. Please see Heidi by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, MAY 22nd
to sign up for your
hours.
